Introducing Finn

When the stars align and there’s a beautiful puppy available in the first week of summer break, it doesn’t take too much to get us to say yes. And so, we found ourselves making some room and breaking out the puppy-sized crate again.

Funny thing is, we were actually scheduled to be on Block Island the very day that said puppy needed to be picked up. So, cue the logistics planning of multiple cars, a ferry ride off and then back onto the island, and the efforts of my wonderful sister, who picked him up and met us in Massachusetts so we could make it back on the island in time!

But we made it, and our new family member spent his first two nights with us in a rented cottage on the island before we headed home. We named him Finn, partly after a beloved dog friend, and partly because we liked the sound of “Murphy, Killian, and Finn.”

He swam in the ocean, ate shrimp on the porch of the National Hotel, and was featured on Dogs of Block Island, all in his first 36 hours.

We’ve always had major adventure dogs, but not one that took quite so quickly to so many of our favorite things. He ran right into the ocean with his brothers, which we’ve never had a puppy do (they are usually more cautious about open water until they’re older).

So here’s to Finn, our newest buddy and the bravest of puppies. It’s a big world, little dude, but we’re going to see as much as we can while the sun shines on us.
